Hello! It has been a very long time and I decided to take another crack at blogging. My follow through with things like this is typically poor. I love the idea but hate the discipline it takes to be consistent. It seems like a crazy time to restart a project like this, as I have recently taken on alot of responsibilities...I will be the new president of the American International Women's Club of Geneva beginning June 1, and I have become more involved with the youth at church. I continue to help out monthly with feeding the local women's shelter, Au Coeur de Grottes, and I am involved in a bible study and various other activities groups such as hiking, skiing (although that is done for now), cooking, canasta, mahjong and photography. Scattered inbetween are trips, short and long, and entertaining visitors in our beautiful city of Geneva. Here is a picture of my sister Marie and her friend Anne who came to visit over Easter weekend.
Thursday, my photography group took a train to visit Morges, where they have a Tulip Festival each spring. The flowers were lovely and the weather was improved some from the gray and rain we have had over the past month. The display of tulips in Morges were impressive, although nothing can compare to the Kuekenhof in Holland, which my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting last year.
My friend Liz, who I met here but has already moved back to the UK, has come to stay with me for a few days. It has been a wonderful visit. I miss her and my friend Penny, who moved back to the UK last week. Since I have been here, I have discovered that this coming and going of people is the norm here and something that you have to adjust to as an expat. While it is difficult, the advantages of meeting the most amazing, interesting and wonderful people and having friends around the world, out weigh the heartbreak you have to deal with at every 'good-bye.' Here we are having a 'good-bye' lunch with Penny. She hates good-byes, but allowed us a small farewell celebration.
Yesterday my hiking group took a wonderful 3 hour hike from Lausanne to Morges and stopped along the way for a picnic. It is my third time doing this particular hike which traverses along Lac Leman and affords stunning scenery. This is a picture my friend Greetje took of me and Kathleen and Penn having our lunch under a willow tree last year on this same hike.
I am looking forward to the summer here. We have an amazing apartment with an amazing view of the lake, jet d'eau and the Alps.
